Christopher Poole, better known by the nickname “moot”, has announced his retirement from running the popular online imageboard 4chan.

He explained in a news post that he will be delegating his responsibilities as the website’s administrator to a team of volunteers.

Poole was also the founder of DrawQuest, a drawing game that received $3.6 million in investments. One of its Amazon AWS accounts was compromised by an attacker that likely used it to mine bitcoins. The company was unable to pay for the bill and announced that it would be shutting down.

4chan made headlines in 2012 when it announced it would accept bitcoin payments for purchases of passes that allow users to avoid solving CAPTCHAs when submitting posts. The $20 payments for passes are handled by the Stripe payment processor.
